Have you ever had a child come to you with gum stuck in their hair?  When moms first notice the gum in the hair, first thing that comes to mind is the scissors. You do not have to use scissors to remove the gum. There are ways to remove gum from hair that are very easy and accurate. Did you know that you can remove gum from hair by using Pam cooking spray? Yep, you heard me right. The good old cooking spray really works wonders for many problems in your home.

To remove the gum from the hair using Pam cooking spray, the hair must be washed first with a shampoo and conditioner. Then towel dry the hair as much as possible to get all of the water out. Spray the Pam over the problem area. Make sure the area is totally saturated. Allow the Pam to remain on hair for 15-20 minutes. After the time is up, re-spray the hair with the Pam again. This time massage the hair with your fingers to loosen up the gum. Now grab a wide-tooth comb and gently comb through the problem area. Make sure to comb from the top to the bottom. Once you have the gum loosened up, spray on a leave-on conditioner. Allow this to stay on the hair for 10 minutes. Grab your comb and comb through. By now the gum should be completely out.

Other ways of removing gum from hair are cold ice, olive oil, ketchup, baby oil, castor oil, butter, Goo-Gone, Mayonnaise, very hot water. All of these home remedies for removing gum out of hair are very safe and will cause no harm.

To remove gum from hair using Mayonnaise, add a drop of white vinegar to the mix. I know your hair may smell like a salad, but the results are better this way. Once you apply the Mayonnaise, place a processing cap (or shower cap) over your head. Leave the mayonnaise mixture on for 20 minutes. Then remove cap and comb from top to bottom. You should be able to pull the gum right out. Rinse with cool water. Now shampoo and condition as you normally do. Rinse off with cool water to close up your pores.

Next time you have someone come to you with gum in their hair, don’t panic. There are always home remedies that will work for all problems.
