Popular Screensavers is part of the Fun Web Products software suite including Cursor Mania, PopSwatter, and Smiley Central. Popular Screensaver is similar to Take Action Motivational, London By Night, and Tropical Reef Screensavers.
It is difficult to classify Fun Web Products as spyware programs. The program suite tracks cookies stored on your computer, but there is a guarantee that personal information is not sold to third parties. If you use Popular Screensavers to beautify your desktop and you are perfectly satisfied with it, you can keep the program on your computer. If your computer runs slower with the program and you don’t like the idea of a program tracking your cookies, you should delete Popular Screensavers as well as any other program that is part of Fun Web Products.
How to Remove Popular Screensavers
The first thing you need to do to remove Popular Screensavers is remove it from the Add/Remove Programs list. To do this, click the Start button located at the bottom-left corner of the desktop.
Once the Start menu opens, click Control Panel. The Control Panel may be located under the Settings menu for some versions of Windows. Once the Control Panel opens, locate My Web Search or Popular Screensavers in the list of programs installed on your computer. Once you find the program, click Change/Remove to delete the program.
Close the window and download HijackThis if you don’t have it installed already. You can download HijackThis from www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/. After installing HijackThis, restart your computer in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be booted by hitting the F8 key on your keyboard while your computer loads.
Once your computer boots in Safe Mode, use HijackThis to scan for any issues. You should delete any entries relating to MyWebSearch. You have to be careful, however, because you can accidentally delete an important system process. Next, close HijackThis and open My Computer. After you open My Computer, double-click Drive C. After that, double-click the folder named Program Files. Once this folder is open, you will need to delete the FunWebProducts and MyWebSearch folder. Simply right-click these folders and select Delete.
After removing these files, you will need to download and install SpyBot Search and Destroy from http://spybot.clickhereformoreinfo.com/. This will undo any changes in the registry.
