How to Start Exercising Your Faith

How to share your faith

Faith, the size of a grain of mustard seed is all that is needed to make it through rough times.  If faith can move mountains, then certainly it can take care of the situations in your life.  Faith operates on the spoken word.  Hold on, I’m acting like everyone knows what the word faith means.  One of the meanings of faith is the belief in God and the fact that He is able to take care of our daily needs.  Sometimes in the midst of our troubles we forget that all we have to do is speak to the mountain and it will be removed, according to the words in the Bible.

If you are a seasoned believer then you know that everyone is given a measure of faith.  Faith grows and is built over time by overcoming trials and tribulations.  One of the greatest tests of faith these days is knowing that despite what is going on in the rest of the world, because of our belief, we already know that we shall overcome.  But getting through the tough times with a smile on your face can be challenging.  Here are a few tips that I find to be useful when I do remember to exercise my faith, and I’d like to share them with you.

  • One key thing that we have to remember in order to exercise faith is knowing that it is given as a gift from God.  When things are going right we rarely have to use faith.  But when there seems to be no way out of our present situation, we need to fall back on faith because it brings hope and strength to carry on.
  • Consider faith as a servant.  It is given to us for our use.  As a believer you already know that all you have to do is ask for something from God and it is granted.  It may not come at exactly the time that you feel you need it, but it does come right on time.  Sometimes we have to wait on things to be granted, sometimes it comes instantaneously.
  • Don’t know exactly how to exercise your faith?  Let me tell you what works for me.  I wake up in the morning and thank God for another day.  I realize that the dawning of another day means that I get another chance to get closer to my goals.  I know that I’m not where I want to be, but because I am still alive, I get another opportunity to keep striving.
  • Now to put faith to work.  This may sound a little strange to some, but believe me, if it didn’t work for me, I wouldn’t be sharing it.  But it did work and I did get results and so here goes.  I wake up one day after being reminded that faith is my servant and all I need to do is speak out into the universe, to faith, as to what I needed from it and by God, it worked.  I say, "Faith, I know that you are my servant and I need for you to work for me today.  I am an author and I have books and I need to sell them in order to pay my bills.  I need for you to send me customers for my book."  Just like that, I prayed to faith and expected what I said to come to pass.  I leave the house and go to the grocery store.  Mind you I only had 20 dollars to feed my family that day.  I knew I needed more money because twenty dollars doesn’t go too far.  I’m in line and there are two ladies behind me and one in front.  As I’m waiting for the woman in front of me to get finished with her purchases, the ladies behind me notice my gold finger tip.  "Is that a gold finger you have," one of them asked?  "Yes, I was in an accident two years ago and in order to not feel self conscious about my missing tip, I decided to bling it up; I turned a tragedy into a treasure," I said, proud of my finger that once brought me shame.  They continued admiring my finger as the clerk rang up my purchases.  After my transaction I turned around, without hesitation, and asked the ladies if they were readers of poetry.  They both said they were and I informed them that I was the author of a book of poetry and they wanted to know if I had a card so that they could purchase it at a later date.  I told them I would retrieve one out of the car and bring it back to them.  I went to my vehicle and retrieved a card plus two copies of my book, one soft and one hard copy.  To make a long story short, both women purchased a hard copy of my book that day, even though they had planned to purchase it at a later date.  Was it my prayer to faith earlier or just a coincidence?  I believe it was because of my faith that things happened the way that they did.

I wrote this article to remind God’s children that in these troubling times, we have to rely on our faith to get us through this recession, one day at a time.  The President can only do so much and in the meantime we have to rely on what we were raised on and that is, our faith.
