The Search for Miss Teen Canada is more than a beauty pageant; it’s a quest for celebrity, a job hunt for someone special to represent our nation in Houston Texas at the Miss Teen World competition in August. Simply put, the MTC-W Judges are tasked to find a smart girl that can speak and think confidently and effortlessly project ‘her own kind of beautiful’.
The pageant is designed to extract the best qualities in young people, celebrate individual achievement, and crown a role model. In July 2009, fifty six teen girls will arrive in Toronto for the preliminaries, and the search will begin in earnest. The big night is Saturday July 25th in the John Bassett Theatre inside the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. On this hot summer night the finalists will model evening gowns, practice public speaking, and demonstrate their physical fitness in their individual bids to become number one. There are gifts and prizes for all the participants, but only one girl can become the 2010 Miss Teen Canada World.
Who will win and why? This year things work a little differently at MTC-W. In addition to being smart and beautiful, the winner will also be among the best bloggers in the match. This year, and for the first time in history the contestants are graded on the quality and connectivity of their OnSugar personal blogs. Being a great blogger is worth ten percent of their final score and that’s because the management needs to find a web savvy computer geek that’s capable of recording and presenting her ideas at the center of their growing online social net.
The four MTCW Judges (Elmer Olsen, Lorraine Zander, Eltom John, and Clarence Ford) have been asked to award high scores to smart girls with great personalities. The most successful candidate will be a great public speaker and be able to communicate complex ideas with great stage presence, charm, and charisma. The winner will no doubt be an advanced academic as that also scores high with Judges. She must evidence a commitment to the community and support a recognized charity. The pageant organizers often talk about the ‘It factor’ and how the Miss Teen Canada should command a room. But believe it or not, a girl’s physical appearance and whether or not she is ‘pretty’ is actually not that important.

Swimwear/Fitness: Best swimsuit presentation and swim suit body
Photogenic: This award will be chosen by your headshot in the program book / web site
Talent Award: The best talent performance
Ad Sales Award: Most overall ad sales
Congeniality Award: Based on delegate votes for each other in the areas of the best overall representation of pageantry and camaraderie.
Supermodel with Style: Best overall runway/stage presence throughout the competition.
Official MTC-W INC. Fundraising award: Most money raised for Free the Children
Community Service: History of committed efforts to give back to the community
Volunteer: Number of hours committed as a volunteer to charities/not-for profit/ organizations, religious affiliations and groups, schools
People’s Choice Award: Given to the delegate with the most votes online before the competition.
Public Speaking: The best over-all communication skills during pageant week and at the event.
