Ah, the “German Thinker” who strongly refuted all labels — the devout Atheist, Martin Heidegger (1889-1976). Thinking logically with absolutely no hints of religious sway existing whatsoever, Heidegger placed great emphasis upon language.
Heidegger is most widely known for the initially misleading and unfinished Being and Time (1927), a book which illustrates his deviant personality thoroughly. His life and works have been noted by critics and alike as peculiar, or quirky, or the antithesis to anything systematic, or idiosyncratic, but nonetheless a necessary attribute to the common academic alongside surreal philosophy of today.
The necessity, structure, and priority of the question of being:
In a nutshell, Being and Time (1927) exposes Heidegger’s conceptualization that
1) the abstract concept of “Being,” though unworthy of an exact analysis as an individual being, and though Being distinctly differs from all other concepts due to it holding no property, does reflect an all-inclusive and comprehensive universality;
2) despite that everything that can arouse beliefs and be questioned, as in the case of Being, this existence is completely empty of any definable content, but that is not to by any means abbreviate or minimize the concept of Being; and
3) this concept of existing in this ineffable understanding of being is self-evident.
He regards Human Languages as “the ultimate reality” in which Being establishes a means with which to speak to Man. With regard to logic, language is shaped over time for its own betterment, but the central problem will continue to be the perceptual reasoning of this language. Though poetry exists without logic, philosophy cannot exist without concrete logic. This hypothesis / theorem relationship between logic and philosophy of this certain aspect of existence indeed exists, the Existential concept of Being continues to retain its universality, lack of definition, though ‘existing in an understanding of Being’ will insist to be infinite and self-evident.
Brief Biography of Martin Heidegger:
Born in Baden-Wurttemburg in 1889, Martin Heidegger attended the Konradihaus in Constance from 1903 to 1906 to complete his grade school education and establish his intent to complete his priesthood. Then he went to the Gymnasium in Freiburg where he established residence at the seminary, and then soon discovered Aristotle in 1907. Though he continued with his theology and philosophy studies at the University of Freiburg, by the summer of 1911 Heidegger completely disregarded his aim at priesthood, ceased any more theological studies, and gives up his theology studies, and the focus of his studies shifted to science, mathematics, and history.
Accordingly, this is the reason for the “Logical thinking with absolutely no hints of religious sway existing whatsoever” — he knew enough of the religious influence that it, in turn, drove him away from all religious governance. So he even more vigorously developed sound reasoning with complete disregard to any “divine” doctrine.
Regardless, Heidegger acquired his doctorate in philosophy in 1913; his his ‘veni legendi’ with dissertation Duns Scotus’ Theory of Categories and Meaning; and entirely deserted the Catholic Church in 1919. This same year he met Karl Jaspers in Freiburg; thus the seed was planted for Being and Time (1927). Heidegger first delivered his famed lecture on the origin of the work of art in Freiburg in 1935, and then ended all contact with Jaspers soon thereafter when his full-fledged devotion to Hitler’s cause and aspired to be the sole philosopher of Nazism. Jaspers turns against Heidegger the Nazi and writes a report in 1945 that denounces Heidegger’s teaching license.
Heidegger died at his home in Freiburg in 1976.
Nonetheless, Existentialism makes an incredibly interesting topic of study.
