When it comes to Christmas decorations:
- I like to change my themes from year to year.
- I prefer to spend money on gifts instead of decorations.
- I prefer a unique look to something commercial.
The idea below is working out well however I can’t take credit for it. I was wondering what I would do with my bland white (not allowed to paint them) apartment walls. The new Pottery Barn catalog came yesterday… not like I can ever afford anything in it… but I flipped by the below room…
http://www.potterybarn.com/content/shop/srlr1/index.cfm - It is difficult to tell here but the tree is decorated with origami cranes and swans.
So I went online to: http://www.origami-instructions.com and taught my self how to fold them with some scrap paper I had lying around.
Then I went to Michael’s http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=pc1382&channelid and purchased a pad of different Christmas Papers…it came with 180 sheets for just $19.99. I went home and cut some of the sheets in 4 smaller squares and left some big. Of course I didn’t use all the sheets (I would have been folding all day) but I made approximately 55 cranes and swans in different sizes and different papers. I strung them with a sewing needle and white thread and then hung the over the doorways and archways in my apartment instead of garland. It looks beautiful and unique and cost under 20 dollars. I got so many compliments!! You can also string them with the needle individually from the top of the curtains in the windows at different heights and from the ceiling in groups or even from the chandelier in the dining room.
Good luck!
