Steel roof shingles are used most often for residential roofing. They can be purchased in a wide variety of styles and finishes to look like conventional roofing products such as tile, slate or wood. Steel roof shingles come in either large panels for quick installation or in single shingles that must be installed individually. The advantage of larger panels is that they can be installed over the top of up to two layers of existing roofing, decreasing the cost involved with removing the older roofing first.
