With the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft again tries to make a mark on the existing huge battle for the best feature-rich, user-friendly Mobile OS. With new competitors around, our own Microsoft has left no stone unturned so as to make our WM more trendy and user-friendly.
HOMESCREEN
First looks are quite impressive and you’ll surely like being able to view all common tasks on your homescreen and being able to have messages, missed calls,mails,music, photos and virtually everything viewed on single click at your homescreen in a trendy shift pattern.

HONEYCOMB DESIGN START MENU
The next change noticeable is no doubt, the start menu.There no more is a Start Menu where you opened Internet Explorer accidentally while opening Messages.The new honeycomb design makes an easy switch.The Start Menu opens up into a full fledged menu making it easier and error-free to select applications.the design is even far better than the widely acclaimed interface of Iphone.

FINGER-FRIENDLY(Oops I forgot my stylus at home)
The overall menu system has been highly modified it to make it more usable without the need for a stylus but the same old keyboard makes stylus a necessity.Though you need not worry much about it as it supports external keyboard templates and there are quite a few good ones available.
New INTERNET EXPLORER
The new Internet Explorer 6 is better to use and highly optimized, more style and less nonsense.Though you always would have the option to use your favorite browser but even IE wont disappoint you with its new 5-button interface again designed for easy hand usage.
New LOCK SCREEN
Other interesting feature is the NEW lock screen.It is more than a lock screen allowing you to do tasks according to your current status.For example, if you’ve got a new text message, you get a separate unlock slider that can take you straight to it.

Other minor changes include option for creating folders within your messaging folders,playing album from homescreen, introduction of Windows marketplace, your own microsoft marketplace just like Apple Store for your iphone, inbuilt flashlite plugin in IE.
Hmmmmm..
Some of your fave apps of 6.1 might not work out in a 6.5 but that’s just a matter of time before updates are out.:)
And with the same reliability and application support features of your favorite mobile OS, there is no doubt you would upgrade your phone right away with a 6.5.Don’t forget to backup your data before you do so.(PIM Backup will serve your purpose well).
Oh, not a WM user yet!Never mind there is a perfect one for you.The new HTC Touch HD 2 comes preloaded with a 6.5 and has a capacitive screen to boast about.(That rich feeling you get on the Iphone screen).Wait for my next full review on this ultra-gadget.
