Fruit and vegetables make perfect, safe and natural scrubs and cleansing masks for the face. What’s more, anybody of any age or sex can use them. They can be used to exfoliate the skin and get rid of all those dead cells on the surface, clear oiliness which can lead to spots, refine larger pores, improve circulation in the skin and nourish skin that tends to be dry. There’s a whole beauty kit in your fruit and vegetable box.

These scrubs and masks can be used as often as you like, depending on your skin type. Oily skin can be helped by using these preparation a couple of times a week, but dry skin should be treated much more gently. It’s really a matter of what you feel is right for your particular skin.

Be extra cautious if you have thread veins and get medical advice because using masks or scrubs can sometimes make them much worst because it stimulates them.

Scrubs can be made as needed or stored in a sterilized glass jar and kept in the refrigerator.

Use the mashed, uncooked fruit, or vegetables on its own, or mix with a little almond oil, egg white, milk, or even water, just to help it stay on your skin long enough to work. Your choice will depend on what type of skin you have.

Apple pulp is slightly acidic and a great cleanser for sensitive skin.

Apricot is a good moisturizer and it cleanses and soothes skin at the same time.

Asparagus, when it is mashed and applied thickly, stimulates the skin cells and can help to dry up spots and pimples.

Mashed banana feeds and soothes the skin, leaving it feeling fresh and looking vibrant.

Carrot pulp will dry up and help the healing of sores and spots.

Celery juice is an excellent skin toner for older skin. (Well worth trying this. It is amazing how good the results are.)

Cucumber is soothing and healing and bleaches the skin slightly. Good for under eye skin but don’t get it in your eyes.

Lemon juice will remove grease from very oily skin but use carefully because it is a very strong astringent.

Orange juice is excellent for drinking because of its high vitamin C content but it can also be used to hydrate older skins.

Pineapple pulp is an astringent and a good cleanser for oily skins.

Strawberries smell fabulous and make a luxurious, cleansing face mask.

Tomatoes will remove excess oil from greasy skins.

The list of fruit and vegetables that can be used in this way goes on and most of them, even the humble potato (spots, eczema) can help to improve the look and health of the skin. The quickest and easiest way I have found to make fruit and vegetable face packs and scrubs is to pop the fruit or vegetables into the liquidizer on their own, or with oil, or whatever else I am using. Instant, fresh and natural beauty products are easily made.
