Bram Stoker started it all in 1897. I would say that Dracula is the hierarchy of all horrifying creatures. There were so many actors who played the role of Dracula in the movie. Max Schreck is the first and the oldest Dracula (Nosferatu meaning "night creature). Bela Lugosi is the only Dracula who was always smiling. You will find him fit for the role of Dracula because of his strange accent. If you used to watch Sesame Street, you would notice The Count and his accent. It is more likely that The Count is the puppet version of Bela Lugosi as Dracula. BTW, The Count is one of my favorite Sesame Street character.
There was also John Carradine who was as good looking as his son, the late David Carradine. Lon Chaney, Jr., also played the role of Dracula but among any other, Christopher Lee was the only one who played Dracula for so many years. He was even honored by the Prince of England as Knight.
The story of Dracula will always remain forever. First, we only know Dracula (Bela Lugosi), then there came The Brides of Dracula (David Pell. Dracula was one hell of a playboy! Wasn’t he?). After a few years, Son of Dracula was born (Lon Chaney, Jr.). You thought Dracula never had a daughter? Ah-aah… In 1936, there was a movie about Darcula’s Daughter (Gloria Holden). Do you ever wonder if Dracula had a grandson or nephew or niece? I hope I would find a movie about (is there such a thing?)
But, who would not get fascinated with this soft-spoken and charming creature? There are so many of us who loves to watch a movie about Dracula. And there are so many actors who also loves to play that role, remember when Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt played a role of a fanged-beasts?
Story of Dracula will stay as long as we are loving "him". I am like you, who are always thrilled to see in theater once there is a cool and interesting vampire movies, we know where they all come from, from Bram Stoker’s "Dracula."
