I do believe that charitable organizations are for good causes, at least the honest and certifiable non-profit organizations that exist today. However, I do want to address one issue. If you are a charitable organization and you want people to use their time by listening to one of your representatives on the telephone, please be sure to enlist the assistance of individuals who do know, understand and practice good telephone etiquette.
As a non-profit charitable organization, one of the leading factors of my choosing to make any type of donation will depend a good deal, on whom you have calling as well as how they act while on the telephone. If I am kind enough to allow you to use my time, you should respect that and use my time wisely.
Just a bit ago, the phone rang; I answered it and told them the people they were calling were either no longer living here, or living elsewhere, and offered the number where they could be reached. However, rather than having that number taken by the representative, the rep began offering his telephone spiel–to lure individuals in to making a charitable organization–to me. I listened and then explained that as a single mother, right now just was not a good time for me.
After listening to the robust speaker give his spiel, rather than a "thank you ma’am’ for your time", what do I get, not even a goodbye, just the sound of a phone being hung up in my face? What has this experience given me, the person who was called away from my business at hand to politely answer the phone? A big waste of time and nothing more.
Rudeness of a telephone representative is inexcusable, most especially when you want someone to give you something. Being rude will never provide you with what you may need as a non-profit organization.
What was coming out of my mouth when the phone was being rudely hung up on me after wasting my precious time to listen with the telephone rep? Here is what was coming from my mouth: "I may not be able to help right now, but as soon as my book is published. I would be more than happy to make a charitable donation to your cause." However, now , that you have chosen to use rude individuals to do your dirty work you can forget about ever getting any type of donation from me.
Thank you for your time and enjoy your day.
* Personally, I think I’ll just stick with making donations to a charity that helps kids.
