Onions in any form, dried, raw, cooked, or powdered contain an ingredient called Allyl propyl disulfide. Dogs lack the proper enzymes to break down the sulfides, resulting in the weakening and bursting of  the red blood cells as it circulates through their body. Known as Heinz body hemolytic anemia it is dangerous and potentially deadly.
Severe damage to the lungs, liver, kidneys and heart can occur, making transfusions necessary in some cases. Permanent damage can be the result.
Make sure your dog has plenty of fresh water, groom and exercise daily. Keep them safe from trash and garbage. Stick to the diet your veterinarian recommends to ensure a long, healthy, life for your pet.Last but not least, give man’s best friend plenty of love and attention everyday, for it will be returned hundred-fold.
