We are always looking for ways of staying economical with the way our economy is right now. You would be amazed at all of the chemicals on the market that can actually cause health problems for many people for what they contain.
Growing up in the military, you get to learn a lot of neat sort cuts that well, frankly most of us would never think of. For example using baking soda instead of a cleanser to clean sinks with. Or how about a little bit of bleach and an old tooth brush to clean that grout in your shower.
Depending on what type of metal you are looking to clean one of the best cleaners available is probably sitting in your cabinet awaiting your children to add sugar to it.
Now stop scratching your head. It is one of the number one drinks we often prefer our children to drink over sodas. It is drink mix (you know the name brand and know the mascot.)
Depending on the size of the time, take a bucket, pour the drink mix into the bottom of it. Remember it needs to be the unsweetened kind. The red works best for this. Fill the bucket with water, remember if the object is small enough place into the bucket and let soak for about 10 minutes. You will want to wear rubber gloves while doing this otherwise you may end up with stained hands. Using an old soft cloth, pull the item out of the cleaner and begin rubbing in small areas. Dunk the object back into the mix continue to do this at least 3 times. Your item will look shiny and new once again.
You can experiment with the different colors of drink mix to see which works best for your metal objects. Some believe that the purple one works well, others orange. But since red has been around the longest it seems to be the most affective.
If the object has a lot of grime on it, you may want to use some baking soda to begin with to remove the grime, then follow the above instructions.
This works great on silver, pewter, brass, and much more. You will want to experiment on a small section to see how your object reacts with this cleaner. That way, if it doesn’t work, you won’t damage the object.
