You have found out that you are expecting. Congratulations! Now it is time to start planning for your baby. Babies are expensive. They take a lot of planning, so you may want to start as soon as you get the good news.

You should make a list of items you will be needing. This can be a simple list, or more detailed list. You should know in advance what you will want to have, and need to have. This gives you time to plan and save money where you can. Planning is a major part in the money-saving process when you are expecting a new baby.

Sign up for government programs. One major program is WIC. This program assists you with foods that provide the nutrients that you need while pregnant, and for the baby after it is born. There are a few other local programs that may be offered in your community. Doing a small amount of research can save you quite a it of money.

Find free items, or money saving coupons, online. You can go to any manufacturers site, and see if they have a free program for expectant mothers. All of the baby formula sites do, and most of the baby product sites do. You can also check sites such as: www.freakyfreddies.com/baby.htm and www.freestuff4baby.com/. Both of these sites have lists of items you can receive for free. You could also use yahoo groups that offer freecycling. Freecycling allows people to give away items they no longer need. People give away a lot of items you may need.

Do you have any friends that have had a baby in the last couple of years? If you do, ask them if they have anything you may need. You can borrow items, or they may give you items. Friends will love to provide you with some items. Be sure if you borrow something, you return it.

Sign up for stores’ frequent-shopper programs. You can then get up-to-date advertisements and specials. Some even send out great money saving coupons for their customers. Grocers and baby stores offer great programs that you will be needing.

Clip coupons. Most coupons are good for a few months, so start now. Purchase a small coupon organizer, and keep them in it. Watch your local ads and compare them to your coupons. When there is an item for a great price, purchase it then. Doing this will greatly reduce your formula, and food expenses.

Finally, have a baby shower. This should be a couple of months before you are due. Register at local stores, and pick items you will definitely need. Most people pick items that they want instead of need. Be realistic, however; people cannot afford to spend a fortune on your child. Think of items that will be necessary for you child. Most people will get all of the small items you need, so you may want to focus on the larger items yourself.

You will be a parent in a few months. You will probably be living on a single income for at least a few months, and need to save money everywhere. Planning this out, and purchasing a few items at a time, will save you money. You will need a little nest egg waiting–every little bit will help.
