Are all dating services made the same? Pretty much. Right, they all have the quintessential photo. Now, knowing this…That the photo of yourself that you post is what will really make or break the whole dating site experience. I mean, not that people are shallow, it’s only that with this form of "meeting" limitations are encountered. There is nothing like looking into a persons eyes, the "windows of the soul" as they are called in a certain Book. But in this amazing forum of online dating, you gotta get the picture right. I put on four different get-ups -the golfer (club over shoulder) the woodsman (replete with chain saw -I even started it) church go-er (even wore a tie) before finally giving up and just having my nephew take a head shot. I used that for my profile, but threw the best of the rest of those action shots in the gallery. Another rule about pictures: Don’t be stingy. Focus on the profile, but choose some other good ones for the Gallery.

I joined Prime Singles in September of 2007. This was a year after my wife passed away. I’m Forty Seven, and was married to my high school sweetheart at twenty…Before cell phones and Internet. I may have sounded like I was putting Prime Singles down when I said it is built like any other dating site. I wasn’t. I stand by that because essentially, all dating sites are made up of a profile picture, a picture gallery, a written bio with category check lists, email, chat (instant messaging) and chat rooms. However, they don’t all have the same "personality." If you are single, and old enough to remember vinyl records and phones with dials, and you want to try a great way to meet people you could mesh with, I highly recommend that you try PrimeSingles.com. Go ahead and browse the site, it’s free. You just need to put in some of your info. It won’t take you long. If you have technical difficulties posting your photo, you can mail them to the site and they will scan them in. If you like your matches, and you probably will, then you will want to join.
Is that reasonable or what? If you are looking to try something like this out for the first time, then what do you have to loose? An hour or two of your time? Ten bucks? A section of the site I remember that I really enjoyed was the "success stories" section. I wrote ours there, it’s probably buried under five hundred others somewhere! So here I’m sharing it online in general. Read over some of the other success stories. You will be encouraged. Some members consider it a success even when they dialog online for a while, set up that first date, and then hit it off and continue to date. That is a success. That is what the aim of the site is. If you are open minded, and go into it in a very non-defensive way. A very non-offensive way too I might add…Then I think dating can be a lot of fun, and so that I don’t sound trite (like I just did) I’ll add this: you can definitely find out a lot about yourself as you find out about other people. You may not like the way you kind of "put yourself in a box" with an online picture and profile. "There is a lot more to me!" you say in protest. But be patient. There is plenty more "opening up" that is going to go on in the messaging. I liked how we got to know each other this way, before meeting in person a few weeks later.
I went on a couple dates before trying the online approach. I liked these woman a lot. The problem was that I felt so strange…sorry, there is no better way to put it…This feeling distracted me, and prevented me from really being myself. And, when I listen…I listen! I think these ladies might have gotten a little turned off by my uneasiness, and they pulled back. It was my fault. But what I liked about getting to know each other online before meeting was that it made the meeting so much more comfortable for me. I was able to be myself, and she liked me! It was very mutual. We called and texted the next day, met again, and stayed in constant contact for, well…ever since!
