How would you like to tone your body, get some cardio, and a rockin’ tan all at the same time? The technology is closer than you think. Look no further than…the great outdoors. There are currently several ads out there encouraging kids to get out and play, but I assure you, adults need play time too!
Think about it. When you were a kid you probably loved being outside. Your parents may have even made you stay indoors as a punishment if you were bad. So if you think about it, you’re technically punishing yourself all day at work, and then you come home and punish yourself some more in front of a computer or TV. Stop it, already. You deserve some play time.
Now if its been a while since you’ve gone outside just for the sake of going outside there are some things you need to do to ensure a safe and fun time.
- Use sunscreen. No matter how dark your natural skin tone is you are still prone to sunburn, or even skin cancer. Protect yourself with at least an SPF 15 or higher. And don’t worry. If you’re returning to mother nature for the free tanning, you’ll still pick up some color (and it’ll be more even than if you got a sunburn).
- Pick a destination. If you’re reluctant about heading back outside, a good motivator is to pick an area that has great natural beauty. Do a Google Maps search on parks in your area. Chances are you have a natural gem right around the corner!
- Find an activity. One thing that may have encouraged you to hide inside is the lack of activities for adults in the great outdoors. Sure…when you were a kid you could always start up a game of tag or hide and go seek, but there is nothing out there for grown ups, right? Wrong! Camping, horseback riding, and (my personal fave) kayaking are all activities that you can do as an adult. These might sound like expensive hobbies, but you can use the Internet to locate bargains that’ll take the price out. Try searching for places that rent out some of the pricier equipment. And just for the record, tag is still fun too.
- Don’t forget the bug spray! Pesky bites can be more than annoying, they can be dangerous. Protect yourself from these bug-born diseases by using bug spray that contains DEET. When applying bug spray remember to keep your mouth shut, because that stuff never tastes good. Never…
What have we learned today? No matter your age you never outgrow play time. If you have the ability to visit the great outdoors then you should do it! Just remember to keep it fun and safe. That’s all I have for now, so I look forward to seeing some of you out and about!
