Homemade Exfoliator: How To Make Your Own Exfoliator

There are many benefits to making your own facial products or for that matter, making anything on your own. It’s less expensive and very easy to do. So many people do not realize exactly how easy it is to make your own household or health products. They end up buying items out of convenience, not realizing that it is very easy and convenient to make them at home from everyday items that most people have on hand already or cost much less than buying the product already made. Homemade facial scrubs can be made several different ways and can help slough off the dead skin that accumulates on your face, leaving it silky smooth and radiant. Here are several recipes for facial scrubs that you can make at home by easily mixing a few common ingredients together. These are all recipes for one application.

Baking Soda Scrub

Mix 3 parts baking soda with one part water into a paste and rub on face. Wash off with water, scrubbing face in circular motion upward. Leave some water on face to keep it moist.

Honey Scrub

Grind together 2 almonds, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply to face and scrub gently.

Moistening Face Mask

You’ll need:

  • 1 egg
  • 4 oz./115 ml coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Place the egg in a small bowl and beat it thoroughly. Slowly add honey and coconut oil, beating until it is the same consistency of mayonnaise. Take a left over empty toilet roll and place plastic wrap over one end to hold the mixture in. Hold it upright over the bowl and spoon the mixture into it. Place the roll in the freezer.

To use, peel away some of the cardboard and rub the frozen stick over your face and leave for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. This mixture will keep for several months in your freezer.

Cleansing Mask

You’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon powdered skim milk
  • ½ a peeled cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon plain yogurt

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl with a blender. Apply the mask to your face, avoid area around eyes. Leave it to dry for about 20 minutes, then rinse off. It is best to mix a fresh batch of this mask each time of use, although you can freeze it in an ice cube tray for future use.

Natural exfoliating scrub with essential oil

Take 2 - 3 teaspoons raw oats (not the pre-cooked type) and crush into smaller bits either by hand or in a grinder. Mix the dry oats with pure honey and 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar until it forms a smooth mixture. Add more honey as needed. Then add 1 drop of basil oil to the mixture. For a problem skin, you can replace the basil oil with tea tree oil to help the healing process along.

After washing the face and drying it gently by patting with a towel, apply this sticky mixture in gentle circular movements. Avoid the eye area. Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes and wash off with lots of tepid water. Although it is a messy skin treatment to perform, the results are excellent and it costs only pennies to make.

Banana Facial for Dry Skin

You’ll need:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons almond oil
  • 1 ripe banana

Combine everything in a bowl and mush into a paste with a fork. Apply this to face and leave on for 20 minutes. Remove with cool water and pat dry.

Carrot Facial Mask

You’ll need:

  • 2 – 3 large carrots
  • 4 ½ tablespoons honey

Cook carrots and then mash. Mix with honey. Apply gently to skin, wait 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

Oatmeal Mask for Oily Skin

Mix 3 tablespoons of raw oatmeal in 2 tablespoons of cold water. Apply directly to the face. Leave on for 5 minutes or until the mask hardens. Rinse with cool water.

Mask for dry/scarred skin

You’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon crushed sandalwood
  • ¼ cup of rose water
  • ½ teaspoon tumeric powder

Combine all ingredients into a paste. Apply to the face and keep on for 30 minutes. This will give a lovely and clear glowing complexion.

Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

You’ll need:

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • ¼ teaspoon honey

Combine ingredients and apply to face for 10 minutes. Rinse well with water and pat dry. Mask can be applied up to 3 times a week.

Sugar Scrub

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup sugar or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup almond oil
  • ½ teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • 6 – 8 drop of lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients together. This is a recipe to make a whole jar of a scrub. Apply to face and rinse off with water.

Salt Scrub

You’ll need:

  • Salt
  • Honey

Mix salt into honey and apply to face. Rinse off with water.
