After mobile phone manufacturers first conceived a device that would combine two of the most useful things we carry about on our person - a watch and a mobile phone - little did the company know it would be starting something of a craze. Now, following the birth of the LG G910, a watch phone that was the first to excite the market, several other devices are cropping up. Could a new trend be starting?

It’s unmistakable that, for many people, a mobile phone that straps to your wrist is nothing but a good thing. You could say goodbye to the days of losing your handset, of dropping it in the worst places, of the frustration that comes when you’re wearing an outfit without any pockets, and every other annoying incident that occurs when your phone isn’t literally attached to your body. Gone would be the days when you just simply forget to bring your phone with you and end up missing everything and everyone because you’re unreachable - because your phone would always be with you, strapped to your wrist.

It certainly is quite easy to see why the idea of a wristwatch phone is such a good concept, which is why several manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon and hope to get their own watch phones out there to compete with LG’s offering, which currently has not been released.

Some have, though, including the SMS Technology Australia M500 GSM, though this is currently only available on the second hand market as a limited number were released. The Hyundai W-100 is available online and hopes to tempt users who care as much about aesthetics as they do functionality. This device is one of the best looking wristwatch phones out there, though you can expect the looks of these phones to remarkably improve over the coming months and years as more and more manufacturers and developers turn their attention to the burgeoning market.

The Cool G108 is one of the older models, but no less popular. Introduced in 2008, this watch phone is the only model to be released that is in a flip open clamshell style, which is set to appeal to many users who like their gadgets to look like gadgets.

One of the best thing about this new wave of mobile phones is that they’re comparatively cheap against some of the usual mobile phone contenders, and a cheap mobile payg account could see them being even more cost effective.

Watch phones could be the next big thing, so if you want to be at the head of the trend, now is the time to act.
