Parent Abuse: Another Side of an Ugly Coin. Where to get help?

As a parent, do you have the right to make decisions as to what is best for your own children?  So, do you think your  rights are safe? Is your state a parent-friendly state?

Whether you are religious or not.  Whether you like it or not, the truth of it is that the laws of the United State of America were founded, written and developed by men who sought a country where they could freely worship their God in a manner that was not sanctioned by their government.  That is how our freedoms in America began.  The USA’s governmental system was designed to allow its citizens freedom.  That includes freedom to raise your own child in the way you see fit.  But, how free are we in America?  Can we afford to relax and trust it will stay this way?

Every day there is a new fight somewhere in our country - A fight for our rights to freedoms.  These freedoms are supposed to be the natural-born rights of all US citizens.  Recently; in the State of Missouri,  State Representative, Cynthia Davis’ Bill to propose an amendment to the state constitution guaranteeing parents and legal guardians the right to care, educate and raise their children without governmental hindrance did not pass. On a larger scale, the UN-CRC could adversely affect every nurturing parent in our nation. Michael Farris from HSLDA will continue to move forward at the national level with a National Initiative regarding a Parental Rights Amendment. You can join the fight for your parental rights by signing an online petition:

So, why should you care about a Bill that didn’t pass in Missouri?  Why should you care about an International Law initially used for the protection of children in a foreign country?  Because, if action isn’t taken soon; it may affect every nurturing parent in this country in an adverse way.

Recently, in the state of Minnesota, a family was ordered to have their son undergo chemotherapy.  They were a family who believed in alternative medicines to treat illnesses.  But, the court squashed their parental rights and ordered that the therapy the state saw fit was administered - Not the therapy the parents saw fit.  This may seem like an extreme case to you.  But, it trickles down to affect every parent’s rights.  It is popular, and even suggested by respected sources, that nursing mothers take their children to bed with them.  This makes it easier on the mother who is recovering from childbirth as well as on the baby who is right by her side in the middle of the night to receive nourishment and comfort.  There are those who oppose this practice as a potential abusive situation because of the safety factor of rolling over on top of your child and suffocating them.  Even though they have safety products such as co-sleepers that allow for a safe practice of this; if you are found by someone in authority who disagrees with this practice, your child could be taken from you.

There are certainly countless scenarios which, under this International Law of the UN CRC could adversely affect you as a parent.  You may not believe in alternative medicine.  You may vehemently disagree with the practice of the famiy bed.  But, every family is different.  Every family faces decisions regarding their children on a daily basis that could be disagreed with by someone.  That someone may be your own parent, a babysitter, a neighbor - the little old lady who peeks out of her window and sees your children running through a sprinkler in their own back yard and finds something wrong with that.  Anyone, even those you may think you can trist, can report what they find to be a parental abusive situation.  If that someone gets someone who is in a governmental position of authority, you could lose your right to parent.  Yes, you could lose your right to parent in the Free country.

Now, I agree there needs to be protective measures in place against those parents who are actually causing harm to their children in a beating or sexually abusive way.  But, most parents want what is in the best interest of their children even if it’s a way that seems strange to you.

If all this sounds complicated and unpleasant, that’s probably because when you are trying to be a light shining in the darkness, it can look pretty bleak to your right & to your left. But, when Americans join together, we get things moving in the right direction and stop hindrances of our rights to raise our children the way we are entitled to in a free society which our founding leaders sought and established.
