SEVENTH IN A SERIES ABOUT LESSONS BY SIKH GURUS
SPECIAL ABOUT THE MONTH: This is the seventh native or Desi month in the Indian Mysticism and Astrology, when the Sun transits through the 6th sign of the zodiac, Virgo. In the western system, it transits through the 7th sign of the Zodiac, Libra. In the Punjabi and many other Indian systems, it is the sixth month.
the month of Libra–Assu–gives us the message that when we seek God earnestly, the longing for it gives the deep feeling of love for Him to meet. When we seek beloved God, we request to the other seekers, the devotees to help us to meet Him. The saints help, so their help is what we need to fulfill this longing; thus in His presence, an everlasting bliss is attained.
After we have gone through the experience of this blissfulness of peace, we seek and pray for eternal union of His presence. God always hears prayers and blesses us with what we seek. This divine hope and His Help is the fruit of His Grace.
THE DIVINE MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF LIBRA, THE ASSU BY SHRI GURU NANAK
In the month of Assu, we ascend still higher and are now able to dispel the duality of love at the mental and spiritual levels. This duality is due to our two different systems of value, one being of knowledge and the second being that of wisdom. In other words, the bookish knowledge and experience create some conflicts that block our development in the Art of Ascendancy, the evolution of soul.
We may develop a negative attitude of comparing thought and action with feelings, which gives rise even to finding the contrast in the feelings, creating suspicion and doubts in our ego, fogging the self and others. We do enjoy the rainbow, knowing that it is the beauty of the white color, but it is difficult to accept it, spontaneously, from the One Source.
The clarity of thought comes and thus the intellectual pursuits crave spiritual guidance of the holy and wise ones for divine love. Shri Guru Nanak Says that pleading for it is through the accepted ones to the Ideal Guide, God.
THE DIVINE MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF LIBRA, THE ASSU BY SHRI GURU ARJAN
In this month of Assu, Shri Guru Arjan says that the company of the wise and the holy ones leads to unbreakable, unshakable, continuously ascending, and blissfully divine love. The art of learning does not merely lie in reading books or the scriptures; rather it is present in the life of those living according to what the Word or Gurbani says, conveys and describes about the leading of life of ascendancy of soul. The reading is communication but not the feeling of experience, by it; we may attain very good knowledge but cannot experience its feelings. The Gurbani says that by obeying we experience, not just by reading.
The smell of a flower does not come from its seed but from the flourishing flower, and so are the feelings and experiences of the wise or the holy ones. This is also so with the Word when we sing; the healing waves and vibrations shower the body, mind, heart and the soul. Their selfless love and God’s Grace are two sides of the coin representing His Kingdom, the Abode of Spirit.
