SECOND IN A SERIES OF MONTHLY GUIDANCE BY SIKH GURUS

SPECIAL ABOUT THE MONTH:  As the special fruit of the Wisdom Tree as described by Sikhism and the Gurbani, this is the second native or Desi month in Indian Mysticism and Astrology when the Sun transits through the 1st sign of the zodiac, Aries. In the western system, it transits through the 2nd Sun sign of the zodiac, Taurus. This is the month of the Birth of Khalsa, celebrated as Vaisakhi, the very first day of this month. In Punjabi and many other Indian systems, it is considered the first month.

The month of Vaisakh gives us the message that the illusion of ignorance (Maya) has cheated our intellect. We are trapped with the false hope that our worldly possessions and relatives will save us. When we rely on these things, we always repent at the end and nobody comes to help us. We can glorify our self by self-surrender to God. We seek Him for His Divine Grace praising His Glory. When we meet His beloved ones, whom the Maya cannot cheat, we receive Grace.

THE DIVINE MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF VAISAKH BY SHRI GURU NANAK:

In the month of Vaisakh, we start to feel oneness with God, while developing a personal relationship with Him. It is like the higher stage of our union in devotion, like husband and wife develop, after the ego surrenders–the dire need of ascendancy. Shri Guru Nanak says that this oneness is bestowed through the congregation of the divine ones.

For us, to surrender ego is one of the most difficult tasks, that always needs the company of those, who do not have ego and know that it is merely the strong faith on the collection and expression of knowledge. In other words, we want to possess others by the spell of knowledge while being the thirsty distributor, but not the seeker of water of knowledge.

The knowledge about water cannot quench our thirst, this can only happen by drinking it. When we read Gurbani or meditate, the water turns into nectar, water of life. This water, when shared or distributed, helps all of us to ascend on the Divine Path as companions.

THE DIVINE MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF VAISAKH BY SHRI GURU ARJAN

In this month of Vaisakh, says Shri Guru Arjan, the oneness, the emergence of ego as a river into the sea is required. It is through the company of the holy ones like the Five Beloved Ones surrendered their heads leaving their ego to ascend as the Five Anointed or Beloved Ones to give water of life (Amrit) to all those, who seek it. By seeking we get all that we need, but the desire alone may not fulfill our wishes, ever increasing with greed.

This water of life in our body works its wonders through eyes (seeing), touch, speech, taste, and many other ways. When we simply drink it, the positive energy waves radiated and selflessness increases.

With our remembering God and His Name, our negative thoughts, feelings and actions weaken–and we ascend.

Only our prayers and the Gurbani can transform or energize anything into divine, like water into holy water; not the negative energy of worries, tensions and sorrows. The life starts from water and reading Gurbani or reciting Name of God by whose Word life comes into existence makes it water for the soul not just for the body.

Well, you see the Sikhism includes the spiritual teachings from almost all world religions and faiths. The Shaikh Farid Ji was the Sufi, the Muslim, Bhakt (or Bhagat) Ravidas Ji and Namdev Ji are from various background. The other contributors in the Teachings of Sikhism, the Gurbani are from all parts of India, various casts, sects, isms, faiths and beliefs, but the common one is the principle that they all believe in One God. So, the Sikhism strengthens not only the national, but the International Integrity without any discrimination for any religion or faith. Never hurt the feelings-it is sin is one of greatest teachings that apply both to the theist and the atheist equally. So, believing in the religion and faith less important than doing what ought to be done as Lord Krishna says leave all religions, but fulfill the duty. I hope it is helpful. Thanks for your comment!
