Being a single mother of two growing children, I work from my home as a freelance writer. I’ve worked with an online production company on a Sci-Fi movie and mini-series that hopefully will be airing soon. I work as a staff writer for an online publishing company as well as spending a lot of my on and offline time composing original articles for an assortment of topics and subjects. I also work online rewriting articles for others to create fresh new content. I’m a quick and efficient human content spinner!
To be quite honest, the last time I had health insurance was as a military dependent and a minor. No doubt, that there was some type of coverage in effect while on a regular job, but other than that none at all.
I have checked into state Medicaid coverage. However, I do not qualify because we get $3.00 more from child support, than the ideal amount for single mother to obtain coverage with our state Medicaid coverage. What is a single mother to do in this day and time? The children have coverage, thank goodness.
The two children get on a good month about $368 in child support and have Medicaid coverage, which is a state funded insurance. But let me ask you this, how does it make sense that a single mother trying her best to make ends meet, works herself just silly and into exhaustion can be turned down over three dollars? I was blown away and so was the Medicaid worker. She told me that the calculations made no sense to her either.
Granted, I am healthy as a horse in many respects, however I could use some type of chiropractic health insurance because I suffer from old injuries either incurred by accidents or abuse that were never attended to as a child or as an adult.
I do not have any type of serious illnesses such as HIV, AIDS, heart disease, hemophilia, chemical dependencies and other conditions such as mental health issues, high blood pressure, diabetes or asthma. I am just a single mother who is healthy and in need of chiropractic care. Most of the other illnesses that I may come down with, I can treat at home, however I am not able to align a hip at home. I can treat colds, mild burns and stomachaches on my own and have no need of medical assistance with those types of things. However, it would be nice to know that if something did happen that as a mother I could get the medical attention I need in order to take care of my children and keep working to pay the bills.
My Ideal Medical Situation for Those Self Employed Individuals Who Need Insurance
First of all, I think we need to go back to an old fashion type of medical arena of those who do work in a medical field to realize that we are not all rich folks with a pocket full of money. Health insurance companies may be greedy for money and unrelenting in their efforts to shortchange those of us who cannot afford their ridiculous pricing, should consider other options. Why can’t they base the premiums of independent contractors on their income? They already know that they will be making more money on all of us than they will ever have to pay out. To me, it is just a greed market that takes unfair financial advantage of hard working people.
I do think it is great that there are state Medicaid plans for the children. However, how will the children be properly cared for when a single mother is in need of medical assistance and is unable to obtain it because the kids get $3 more a month on a good month than will qualify the mother of the children to continue in good health? If the mothers are down, how can anyone expect it not to influence the manner in which the children are cared for while the mother is in need of health insurance?
