Six Cost Effective Group Costumes to Wear as a Family or Group of Friends

Want to go trick or treating’ or to your halloween/harvest fest parties in a group or as a family with your children?  Here’s some great costume ideas for groups of people - Some require a few more, but at least 3 people will do for others to work:

  1. Go as the cast of Wizard of Oz.  You know the characters - Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin man, the Cowardly Lion, the Wicked & the "Good" Witch, etc.  You could pull this off with as little as 2 or 3 people - with a little girl going as Dorothy & mom and dad going as Tin Man and Lion or Scarecrow.  Or, you can add to the cast and even add the Lollipop Guild.
  2. A pumpkin patch.  Everyone - from the tallest daddy to the little "punkin" can dress as a pumpkin and go as a pumpkin patch.
  3. A cluster of grapes - Everyone can dress in green sweats or leotards & attach partially blown up purple balloons.  Make sure you don’t overinflate or they’ll be popping all night.  Also, this one is a bit tricky for transporting children dressed as grapes in carseats, so if you’re doing a lot of car travel throughout the night, be creative or really under-inflate the back "grapes."
  4. The Peanuts gang from Charlie Brown.  This one is versatile.  You can either go as the Peanuts characters dressed up in their trick or treat costumes - a really bad-looking sheet ghost, a green-faced witch (Lucy), etc. or you can just simply go as characters from the regular Peanuts gang.
  5. Choose your favorite sports team & dress up as a baseball team - all wearing the same style jerseys or football, basketball, hokey team.  This one may be a bit more costly than the others, but if you’re a big fan of a particular sports team, you may already have what you need in the form of t-shirts or jerseys or hats, etc. with the team logo on it.
  6. Box of Crayons - Everyone, from big to small, dress in one solid color (a different color for each child, or person involved) and simply add a paper or craft foam cut out of the word Crayon - Attach to front & back of outfit & add a construction paper hat folded to a point (like a party hat) - attach with elastic or string under the chin.  If you prefer, use some craft foam sheets for a more durable hat.  If you have a very small child, you can add a ski-cap or winter knit cap (same color as their sweatsuit) to look like a crayon that has been used a lot and has been shortened, not quite so new and pointy, more nubby (not to imply your child is nubby).  But, this affect will help bring the different heights together & when you stand in a group, you will look like a box of crayons.

Be creative.  There are so many other ideas that come in sets or groups that would be easy to throw together for a family for a fun night of fall parties or treat gathering.
