It has been many years since I have been to San Antonio, Texas - it is one of the most fascinating cities I have ever been to. It has beauty, it has culture, it has fun, and a great preservation of history.

Attractions

There are many great and interesting places to visit in San Antonio, Texas and these are some of the most popular.

  • The Riverwalk is one of the most popular and beautiful places to visit in San Antonio. The San Antonio Riverruns through the city and on the Riverwalk there are shops, restaurants, sidewalk cafes with parts of it sunken below the street level of the city. This adds to the uniqueness of the Riverwalk. The architectural design of the Riverwalk is very similar to European cities that were built on rivers. You can enjoy entertainment on the Riverwalk or take a river taxi through San Antonio. You can dine on one of their river dinner cruises. The Riverwalk was definitely one of my favorite places to be.
  • The Hemisfair Park, located downtown San Antonio, was built for the 1968 World’s Fair. It is stretched across fifteen acres, has an intricate maze of waterfalls as well as a playground for your children.
  • The Tower of The Americas, located downtown San Antonio in the Hemisfair Park, is 750 feet tall with a panoramic view from its observation deck. You can ride the glass elevator up to the revolving restaurant. You will also find in the tower an exciting 4D theatre ride.
  • Breckenridge Park is just north of downtown San Antoniowith a miniature railway and cable-way for children. You’ll be drawn to the beauty of the Chinese Sunken Gardens and the Japanese Tea Garden.
  • The San Antonio Zoo is conveniently located next to Breckenridge Park and is considered to be one of the best zoos in America. It has over 3500 animals and one of the largest bird collections in the United States.
  • We cannot forget the Alamo. The old mission site is symbolic of courage and dedication. It houses very old artifacts along with the letters written back and forth between their comrades while holding on to the Alamo. The whole family will find this history lesson quite intriguing.

Places to stay

San Antonio has plenty of lodging at all different price ranges. Staying in a hotel on the Riverwalk puts you in close proximity of the places you want to visit.

  • Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Riverwalk. It has an outdoor pool, sauna, fitness center, lounge, and you are allowed to bring your pet.
  • Holiday Inn on the Riverwalk. There is an outdoor pool and a fitness center. Your children get to eat free.
  • Drury Inn and Suites on the Riverwalk. It has a rooftop swimming pool. They offer a complimentary hot breakfast every morning, plus you get free snacks and beverages daily.

Places to eat

With San Antonio, Texas being neighbors to Mexico, you will find excellent Mexican food anywhere in the city. There are also restaurants serving up juicy steaks and succulent seafood.

  • Tower of The Americas revolving restaurant provides you with fine dining and a magnificent view of San Antonio.
  • Casa Rio was the first restaurant on the Riverwalk. Serving some of the finest Mexican food.
  • Iron Cactus has a great Mexican menu and has one of the best tequila bars in the country.
  • The County Linelocated on the Riverwalk has a great menu for you barbeque lovers.

San Antonio, Texas is a wonderful city to visit. There are so many things to do and places to see. Plan a vacation to San Antonio. You will be glad you did.

I recently visited a friend in San Antonio! I'm a vegetarian, and we went to a really good restaurant called Green Vegetarian. I didn't expect to find good veggie food in San Antonio, but this place was a surprise.
