What is the most dangerous dog you may ask? The Dachshund! Believe it or not as per a research done at the University of Pennsylvania it was found that Dachshunds are the most dangerous of all dogs, since one out of five has attempted to bite strangers, and per the study results, many Dachshunds have attacked their owners, as well as other dogs around them.
If a dog is determined to be dangerous and has a history of behavior that is violent regardless of its pedigree then there are community governing laws that will be applied. It is however important to recognize that there is no guarantee for any breed to be 100% attack or bite-free.
Here is a list of 15 dogs that are listed under the “dangerous dog” category:
1) Chow-Chow – Similar to cats personality-wise, they are very discerning with strangers and very stubborn. They are independent dogs in need of daily exercise; that should be taught socialization and be trained at a young age.
2) Akita Inu – Originally from Japan, this type of dog is dignified and courageous and has an aggressive personality. It is an alert, heavy boned dog, which may attack other dogs at times.
3) The Giant Schnauzer – This dangerous dog like the German Shepherd was originally trained to side with soldiers in the war. Although they are fierce dogs and have a high anxiety level towards strangers, they are quite loyal.
4) Papillon – Generally a small dog that is loyal to its own family but dislikes strangers. Papillon dogs have a sweet temper, but are quite nervous and anxious around non-family members and other dogs.
5) Dachshund – A “badger dog” that was trained to hunt and dig holes, the Dachshund is a territorial dog that was bred to fight badgers to death. The Dachshund needs a lifetime assertion from his owners in order to be happy and integrate into his family.
6) Jack Russell Terrier – Bright and energetic, these dogs need a lot of exercise and do not tolerate rough handling from small children and will bite when angry.
7) Llasa Apso – These independent and aloof dogs require daily exercise, are instinctively suspicious of strangers and have been bred for many years to be indoor watchdogs.
8) Bullmastiff – These independent thinkers do not bark a lot and although they are confident house guards. Brave and fearless they are not usually able to respond to the traditional methods used for “Obedience Training.”
9) Miniature Pinscher – Although small they bark a lot, are incredibly independent and also exceptionally fearless.
10) Chihuahua – Although small in size and swift, these dogs are intelligent and will not tolerate small children, and will bite when they get angry.
11) Old English Sheepdog – These dogs need a lot of exercise and since they were originally bred to herd the sheep, they have kept their natural instinct to “herd” people and objects. This type dog will become aggressive if he feels someone or something is in the way of his “herding” job.
12) German Shepherd: A military dog that is fearless and strong, a loving dog but can be trained to be aggressive and forceful.
13) Rottweiler – Very protective of their owners and territory, and will not receive strangers well, unless they are appropriately introduced. They need socialization and obedience training from a young age.
14) Dalmatian – These energetic dogs have an affinity for horses and are used to long routine walks which they need in order to remain calm and non-destructive.
15) Pit Bull – This loyal dog is quite friendly and people-oriented. The Pit Bull is happiest around his family especially if he is given a responsibility and will aggressively protect his family if he is threatened.
