There are a ton of games and apps available in the App store on the Iphone. A lot of the games really aren’t that good. Fortunately, a lot of them are also free. Here is a list of some of the better games you can get free of charge. Granted, a lot of free games are limited, simplified versions of full games that cost money, but that doesn’t change the fact that they can help kill some time.
Tap Tap Revenge and Tap Tap Revenge 2
These are hands down, without a doubt the best games, free or otherwise, available on the app store. They are also some of the best rhythm games out there. They are in the same vein as a Guitar Hero or a Rock Band type game. Dots move towards you and you tap them as they reach a certain line. The dots match the beat in a song that is playing. Extra tracks can be downloaded for free. Every time I play one of these, I marvel at the fact that I got it free. Tap Tap Revenge 2 even comes with it’s own theme song that you can play. The song is surprisingly catchy.
Rope N Fly Lite
Very simple, but surprisingly fun little title. You swing your little guy spiderman-style through randomly generated skylines. The lite version only contains a 30 second practice mode, but the amount of enjoyment you can get out of this game 30 seconds at a time is surprising. You tap a building to latch on, tap again to release and hopefully send your little guy flying a decent distance before latching onto another building and swinging away.
VaultBreaker
If you like Sudoku, you will probably like VaultBreaker. You have to guess a certain number of digit code to open a safe. If you get a digit correct, you get a blue light. If you get a correct number, but in the wrong position, you get a grey light. It’s very rewarding to actually get the code right, and the difficulty can be changed, if you find 3 digits too easy (it’s not), 4 and 5 digit difficulties are available too.
TapWord
It’s Boggle. You are given a randomly generated 4×4 block of letters and a limited amount of time to find as many different words as possible in that grid. There is a reason that Boggle is still around and still played: it is a solid game. Likewise, TapWord, though only single player, is still very good.
