For many writers the hardest part is getting ready to write or finding just the right subject to get them going. The best way to get yourself writing is to create specialized writing exercises to get you going. Finding just the write groove is the best way to go.
Get yourself organized!
To get yourself going, you need to be organized. Set yourself up with a special place in your home where you can do your writing. It doesn’t have to be a big space a simple bookshelf in your living or dining room is a good start, a place where you can keep pens, pencils, paper and maybe some of your favorite writing books. If you live in a small place, you might want to consider getting a TV tray to create a small writing surface that can be put away when not in use.
Set yourself up with several note books, one to keep character ideas in, another for article ideas and a third for story ideas. When you get an idea about one of the subjects listed, reach for the corresponding notebook and jot it down. This way if you are in a rush, you can at least get something on paper.
Always keep a small notebook in your automobile, purse or brief case to jot down ideas when you are away from home. Then make it a ritual when you get home to take the information and move it to the proper notebook. Make a notation in your mobile book when you transferred the information. This will help keep you up-to-date and ready to write.
Writing Exercises
So now you have a space ready to go and you are pretty well organized, next step getting started. There are many writer’s that find it hard to just sit and write and need a way to get moving, a good way to do so, writing exercises.
One method that a lot of writers have begun to use is writing a thousand words about anything. A good example; look around the room you are currently in, if there is a stapler sitting in front of you, write about it. What color is it? What brand? Is it a new modeled stapler? Is it heavy? By asking yourself pointed questions it will help you to explain things to people and give them a proper visualization through your writing.
Another great exercise is the writing tree, simply take an item again, using the stapler as our example, place the word stapler at the top of the page, next branch down with two words that come to mind, then 2 for each of the new words and so on. This can help give you maybe a new story idea or an article idea.
