Education in South Africa: outcome-based education system - problems revealed

It’s been apparent to me for some time now that something is awry with the way that most of us think and react to the world around us. We have largely become complacent, and the majority will rarely speak out on point and fight a cause, despite the fact that we will happily complain amongst friends and colleagues about what we see as the inadequacies of the world we live in.

This often leaves the voice of social and political influence with the outspoken minority, unfortunately this group often carry with them the extremes of opinion and it is the case that those who shout loudest often get heard and heeded.

This results in one sided social and policy changes that are not for the good of the majority but instead silence the minority and create an easier political life for those in power.

This is a worrying trend and one that has already led to a lot of the red tape and bureaucracy we have to endure today.

So what can we do about it? Well the French are good at arranging civilised protests for the good of the people and making their voices heard on mass, however the French are the French and for the rest of us those in power are unlikely to tolerate any form of mass protest or bow down to its demands without a fight.

This got me thinking! Before we can hope to see any degree of socio-centric political change, with views targeted towards the good of the majority, we really need to bring people round to a mindset where they apply intelligent thought to the issues and get used to formulating and discussing answers and solutions with realistic potential for application in the real world.

Enter the ‘qphia’ project (qphia.com), the qphia project is “the quest for philosophical answers” an idea that came to me rather randomly and with no particular provocation.

It entails a social network for intelligent and philosophical thought, a place where members can ask questions and share philosophical answers to these questions with other community members.

The idea is to encourage intelligent thought and discussion on everyday issues, in the hope that people may broaden their minds and develop a new wave of practical thinking for the good of society.

In encouraging people to think and share points of view among an on-line community we hope that we may be able to develop a consensus view on a number of issues that can then be transposed to real world applications and political thinking, it’s an ambitious idea, but if we can just make a few people think beyond conformist attitudes it will be a step in the right direction.
