What are the pros and cons of an office relationship?
pro - you save on gas… carpooling is even an option!
con - you get hot and heavy on the way in, you will probably be late…
Pro - You can flutter by and whisper sweet nothings to the other person throughout the day.
con - when you break up they can float by and tell everyone around you how bad you are in bed.
pro - easy way to lose weight… lunch breaks are for ‘activities’ rather than food.
con - you get caught by the boss and you get fired.
pro - you get to share everything… time at work and in the evenings.
con -you have to share everything… time at work and in the evenings.
pro - you get to flirt with someone at work who you know wants to be flirted with.
con - you flirt with anyone else, or they flirt with you… hello jealousy.
pro - you know where your significant other is at all times
con - If things go bad… you’ll have to quit your job to get away from them.
The thrill here is the ease of access. But then you have to view the whole situation and not just lose yourself. If you do choose to date someone in your office, start slow. This is a touchy situation (for one thing, you need to see if your company has any policies regarding this issue). Too many issues are added to the relationship that most people can’t handle. You have to accept the fact that if things do not work out between you and the other person, you work life will also be affected. Now two mature people, who know going in what they are getting into, can have a relationship that doesn’t work out and still function well at work together. In all honesty though, this is a rare combination of people. Far too many relationships become hostile or petty when they don’t work out.
Not to mention, what such a relationship could do to your image within the office. People will view you differently for a variety of reasons. Some may frown on you thinking you acted unprofessionally or worse yet abused your position in some way. Not to mention what may be said by a jilted ex lover in the office. This could hurt you professionally later on. That is something you have to accept before you make such a decision.
