Humble Beginnings not a stumbling-block if you are determined and focused
It was easy to see that this lady had a very special quality the moment she sat down in my office. Somehow, when one meets new people on a regular basis, very few of them immediately give a sense of some stand-out quality that makes an impact. Noleen was one of those. In sport circles, it has been said that the current Springbok Rugby Captain, John Smit is another who easily fits into that special niche.
At the age of just 31, Noleen headed a small company on the East Rand employing some 240 people already boasting a turnover of well over $2,5 million and year, and growing. But the story of her success started 10 years before from humble beginnings. At that time, her first challenge had been simply to survive. So, after many phone calls, she managed to secure a small temporary contract involving her and six previously unemployed women cleaning hired cars at a depot near Durban Airport.
The car hire company was so impressed with the performance of Noleen and her staff, that they extended the contract to include the employment of drivers to shuttle the cars between the airport and the depot. That same business, together with many innovations later, has today expanded into a major vehicle shuttle service criss-crossing Southern Africa, accompanied by a turnover of some $7 million a year.
But, I asked myself, why should her story be ANY different to that of the folk we all meet on a daily basis? The theme played out of those who REALLY succeed lies in the vision of a clear plan for the road ahead, based on an insightful assessment of both personal and professional weaknesses and strengths.
To have any success though, any assessment approach must not be either costly, time-consuming or unreliable. An approach which can accurately measure, on a percentage scale the following has merit for both companies and individuals:
Management Style
Work Style
Communication Style
Personal Dynamics
Interpersonal Style
Intellectual Style
Integrity
The approach must also be flexible, and cater for a variety of occupations, and it is for this reason that a Job Template is used for each job description, so that abilities can be measured when it is important to see if a person is up to a particular job.
This can include many aspects, too numerous to mention here, but, here are some:
Ability to make major decisions independently
Strong originality of thought and action
Ability to work steadily toward a goal
Ability to maintain sound principles and standards
There is no doubt that this innovative approach works, simply because successful results have been exhibited with not only individuals, but within small and medium-sized companies across the globe, and now in South Africa. The efficacy and cost-saving of using Handwriting Analysis can not only be demonstrated in practice, but also in favourable scientific analysis of the methodology as covered in a published treatise by S.Ulrich PhD. “Handwriting Analysis as a Psychodiagnostic Tool.” There are many thousands of others confirming its validity.
