Harry Potter: Good or Evil?

The author of the most famous children book series Harry Potter is Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She was born on July 31, 1965 in England. Here she graduated from Wyedean Comprehensive and then went on to Exeter University. Here she studied French in hopes that she would become a bilingual secretary.

After graduating and failing to be a good secretary, Ms Rowling moved to Portugal. Here she married a local journalist and had her daughter Jessica in 1993. After this marriage fell apart, she moved to Scotland, so that she could be closer to family. This is when she started writing her first Harry Potter Book.

The first book was named was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. At first the book was turned down by many publishers, but eventually Ms Rowling was able to sell the book to Bloomsbury Children’s Books in the United Kingdom. Then in June of 1997, the book was published and the money, recognition, and awards started coming in.

Bloomsbury Children’s Books then sold the American rights to Arthur A Levine Books/Scholastic Press. This then lead to the book being published in America in September of 1998, but under the name, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The series became an instant success in America and J.K. Rowling became an international success.

With the success of her first book, Ms. Rowling started writing the rest of the series. The order of the series starting with the second book is: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000), Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix (2003), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007).

The series was so successful that the book series is now printed in 35 languages and has also been made into a movie series. People have waited in lines nights just to be one of the first people to buy the next installment of the Harry Potter Series. Then when they went to see the movies, they would dress up as their favorite characters. With this success, J.K. Rowling is now known by almost every household in America and all over the world. J.K. Rowling said that these are the only books that the series will comprise of, but no one can say for sure if there will be more. Hopefully, we will see Harry in his adult years.
