Thoughts on homosexuality and choice

Consider for a moment your own sexuality - is it something you have chosen or is it the result of thousands of thoughts, emotions, and physical reactions that occur when you see someone you are attracted to.  No consider for a moment someone thinking that you are somehow “choosing” to create that kind of reaction.  While its not impossible, it is also not probable.

I am constantly drawn to the Discovery channel, and the Discovery Health.  There have been several shows that while they cover different subjects, each one of them gives us just a small glimpse into the various and intricate anatomical anomalies that most people will never know they have.

One of these such medical discoveries is the absorbed twin.  The notion that you ARE your own twin.  There is also a phenomenon where an individual may have more than one DNA.  Not necessarily in their blood but as remote as one particular organ, or body part that incidentally may have been that of their twin that never had the opportunity to fully develop.  Similar to a Siamese twin, only less obvious and much more difficult to diagnose.

In one such case a woman going through a custody battle was mortified when her two children were yanked from her custody because it was discovered that they weren’t even hers biologically.  Without adoption papers rumors began to fly that these children were from the “black market”.  This woman fought adamantly and nobody in the family could understand HOW these children were not hers.  The woman at one point again became pregnant and in the end it took a court ordered viewing of the birth to really bring this issue to a head.  The woman had her child and immediately after birth the child’s blood was drawn as was the mothers.  The result?  The child again did not have matching DNA to her mother who just moments before had given birth to her.

Once a true medical investigation began it was later discovered that this woman had two types of DNA.  The type that came out in her blood and from just about every other spot on her body.  But, her reproductive organs were found to be a completely different DNA.  How is this possible?  Basically, in a nutshell, it was predicted that this woman started life with a twin and at some point the twin died and was reabsorbed by this woman’s developing body at a very early stage of development.  The result, the absorbed twin’s uterus grew inside this woman and the rest of the twin was completely gone completely undetectable by anyone until now.

So, take this medical fact and expand on it to the point that there may be many people out there that have absorbed twins that don’t know it.  Now, take that one step further and consider the possibility that your absorbed twin was a different gender than yourself.  I do not believe the notion that homosexuality is a choice, but rather a medically explained occurrence.  It is not a disease, it is not a sickness.  It is NOT a choice.  I believe it can be explained and while that would be a VERY expensive research topic, perhaps it would open the door for more universal understanding and tolerance.

I am a heterosexual woman, but have seen a mother and father heterosexual married couple devastated when each of their 5 children 2 boys and 3 girls grow up to be homosexual having had no introduction to the lifestyle prior to them “choosing” it for themselves.  I have seen small children as early as age 4 realize they were “different” somehow because they already knew they were attracted to their own gender.  A 4 year old would not consciously CHOOSE to be the brunt of jokes, pranks, torment, teasing, and bullying for years to come.  They do not understand the concept of sexuality, they simply know what they feel and up until that point have not been taught that what they are “choosing”  for  themselves may not be acceptable by others around them.

THAT is not a choice.  That is a life.  Imagine the possbilities.

I also watch the Discovery Channel fairly often and I remember this exact show you are talking about, where the woman is inherently here own twin and she was scared that her children were going to be taken away. It took forever for them to finally believe her that she was giving birth to them and they were her kids and it took them much longer to finally figure out how she could possibly have two sets of DNA. However, you make such an interesting point. I had never even thought about the possibility that people who are homosexual could have this be happening to them. It is a very intriguing and possible explanation for homosexuality. Many people want to label things they don't understand or fear as bad or wrong, simply because they either fear it or don't understand why it is happening. I think there should be more research done on this topic. You could really be onto something here. Good, original thinking! I applaud you!
