Eggs are fantastic food. They are comparatively cheap, high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids. Not to mention that they are easy to cook and taste great. You can use them to make simple, fried eggs, an omelette or french toast. All of these foods are dead simple and can be made by anyone. Here’s how:
Fried Eggs
Ingredients:
2 eggs
Butter, oil or non-stick spray
Salt and pepper to taste
In a non-stick frying pan, melt the butter, heat the oil or heat the pan and spray lightly with non-stick spray. I like butter myself, but that is a personal preference. Use medium or medium high heat. Crack the eggs into the pan. Use a quick, firm tap on the side of the pan to do this and try not to break the yellow part. Add the salt and pepper and cook until the whites are completely white. Move to a plate and eat with toast.
Omelette
Ingredients:
2 eggs
Butter, oil or non-stick spray
Little bit of milk (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Filling*
Crack eggs into a bowl. Add a little bit of milk, how much you add depends on your preference. More milk leads to a lighter and fluffier omelette with less structural integrity. Too much and it will fall apart easily. Add salt and pepper and whisk thoroughly. Add to hot pan with your butter, oil or non-stick spray (here, non-stick spray is best). As bulges form, pop them. Cook until the omelette is no longer gooey. Move omelette carefully to plate, add filling to half and fold over. Eat with ketchup, if you so choose.
*Filling. The basic omelette filling is grated cheese, but pretty much anything goes. Omelettes are a great way to clean up some left overs. Got half a potato? Fry it up, add it to the omelette. Leftover ham? Chop up small, warm it up and throw it in there. Carrots, onions, broccoli, whatever you happen to have in the fridge that sounds like it would be good.
French toast/egg bread
Ingredients:
2 eggs
Butter, oil or non-stick spray
Salt to taste
Cinnamon (optional)
Vanilla extract or imitation vanilla extract (optional)
Little bit of milk (optional)
2-3 slices of bread
Crack eggs into a bowl, add a splash of milk if you want. Add salt, a bit of cinnamon, and a bit of vanilla if you want. This is all very exact, as you might be able to tell. This is cooking, not baking, so add according to your taste (too much would be bad though). Whisk your mixture. Dip both sides of bread into mixture. This is a dipping, not a soaking, so the outsides should be coated, but not every pore of the bread has to have egg in it. Put the bread in your now-standard heated, greased non-stick pan on medium heat. When the bottom is golden brown and delicious-looking, flip the bread. When that side looks the same as the other, move it to a plate. Serve with maple syrup or the jam of your choice.
