Winter season is quickly approaching and there are many ways to accessorize with your old scarf and give yourself a fabulous new look. Traditionally, scarves were worn as way to keep the neck and face warm during the cold, winter weather. Now, scarves are worn as an accessory to dress up an outfit, and they come in many different sizes, materials, and colors. Depending on the bulk or size of your scarf, there are many ways you can play with it and use it to transform a whole outfit. The less bulk in the scarf, the easier it is to sport it for many different uses.

1.) Attach to a handbag. Let’s face it. After toting around the same handbag every day for a few months straight, your once cute handbag may seem dull and boring. To add an instant piece of glam to your any old handbag, simply tie a scarf around one of the straps. The scarf can be tied in one knot, or even a bow. This works particularly well when using a silk or polyester scarf, as it does not add as much bulk.

2.) Wear as a wrap. A unique and trendy way to wear your old scarf is to turn wear it as a shawl or a wrap. One of the most popular items to wear with your holiday dress is that perfect scarf draped over your shoulders or arms. It adds an instant touch of glam that is subtle, but keeps you warm at the same time.

3. Wear as a headband. This may be difficult to achieve with many heavier scarves, but with the right scarf, it can make the most glamorous hairpiece. Take an old silk, or polyester scarf, fold it in half long ways, and simply wrap it around your head like a headband. Just tie a little knot or bow under your hair and they you are set to go!

The nice part about any of these three ways to accessorize with a scarf is that anyone can easily achieve these by using fabric from the fabric store as well. Have fun, and experiment with different ways to accessorize!
