When you are invited to a baby shower there is a three stage process of emotions. First you are excited and eagerly reply with a certain YES I will be there. Afterwards, your mind starts questioning, “Oh Gosh, what if they expect me to eat baby food or drink from a bottle?” Stage three is thinking about how you can get out of all those lame baby shower games that everyone so eagerly avoids!
It is now your turn to invite people to a baby shower. Do you want all those recipients to go through that same process of emotions? Do you want to see that the list of guests expected is so much more than those who actually showed up?
Well, the best way to fix this is to throw a great baby shower. This is not a hard concept to deal with. I can guide you through the proper planning of how you can throw the best baby shower on the block.
Let’s talk food. Tiny sandwiches are easy to make and a pleasing snack. With so many different varieties to choose from, you can easily have three or four styles without breaking the piggy bank. Fruit salads and vegetable platters are also a great option. You can cut up celery, broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots, and other favorites or you can find vegetable trays at the market. Serve chilled with ranch dressing or make your own dips to impress your guests.
If you must have chips, try the Pringles or Lays in the tube. They are spreadable and are eye-appealing. Cheese and crackers, chicken skewers, meat balls, and baby shrimp are all crowd-pleasers as well. The most important food is the baby shower cake. Whatever you choose as color and decoration, make certain you order a cake that has two sides of flavor. Having a cake that is chocolate on one side and vanilla on the other ensures that everyone will be pleased.
Just because the mommy-to be can’t have alcohol does not mean the party can not be lively. Virgin daiquiris and “preggnatinis” (martinis without the alcohol) are always fun. Tea, coffee, punch, and soda are all great options.
Baby showers are all about the games! You have to have great games!
No Baby!-everyone gets a safety pin at arrival. If you hear someone say baby, you get their safety pin. This is a classic and it is also an ice-breaker for families just meeting.
Memory- After an hour or so, ask the mommy to be to leave the room. Everyone is now handed a pencil and paper. They are asked to list everything that the mommy-to-be was wearing. Make sure the mommy-to-be wears rings, necklaces, ankle bracelets, shirt pins, ect to make this game fun.
How many clothes pins? - Have a large jar with clothes pins out with a decorated box beside it. Allow people to write their guess on a slip of paper and then at the end, the one who is closest wins the prize.
Catch the Safety Pin: Get a bowl of rice with safety pins mixed into the rice. Blindfold the racer and give them a minute to pull out as many safety pins as possible. This one is fun for both the racer and the viewer!
Make certain that everyone leaves with a gift of some kind. A small goody bag with scented candles and a picture frame is nice. Be creative and have fun planning the party. If you have fun planning it, then people will have fun at it.
