Ten things to consider when buying school supplies

 1. Recycle School Supplies. The best thing you can do to not spend alot of money going back to school is to go back to school with previously used school supplies and books. This means keeping old supplies and making repairs to broken ones to use them again and save money. One year when I got school supplies I bought them all new and spent $134.86; when I recycled my school supplies I was able to spend only $45.23. I saved about $91! Ninety-one Dollars!!! I also reduced the wasted packaging from the supplies and the pollution while making them.

2. Pack Reasonable Lunches. Another great thing to do is to buy a reusable water bottle in order to not spend alot of money on plastic bottles which fill up land fills and also take over one million years to decompose. To go along with this it is recommended to use tupperware and plastic containers in order to not waste plastic bags and boxes. This also helps you regulate the amount of lunch you pack and even help you make it so that all the food is finished becuase it is a proven fact that people eat healthier and better meals out of solid containers.

3. Biking to School. The most simple way to save money and be healthier becasue of exercise. A study showed that people who were driven to school or drove to school wasted an average of 13 gallons of gasoline sitting in lines of traffic alone! That right there is $50! This is why I recommend that anyone walks or bikes to school.

4. Buy used Library Books. This is very important as you can save tons of money throughout a school career becuase most textbooks cost about 85 dollars and used they cost about 40. Over a school lifetime one can save over 1,000 dollars on used books. Another good thing about this is that when books are recycled the glue used on the bindings is extremely toxic if exposed to certain materials which are usually found in landfills.

5. Control your Electronics. Leaving things plugged in such as a clock or laptop overnight, not only burn the battery out but also cost a good deal of money. Normally these things which lie dormant can sucks up anywhere from two to ten cents per hour which can add up during your sleep and while at school. If you do this every day of the year with something which sucks up ten cents per hour you lose over eight hundred dollars!

Good advice. I saved quite a bit with recycling last year's supplies too. ANd I am trying to get in the habit of remembering to unplug everything. That's a toughie. :)
