I use gifts as gift wrap. For example, if I am attending a bridal shower, I will purchase a large pot and fill it with dish towels, wash cloths, measuring cups anything that will fit inside, I then tie a bow around the entire pot and attach a card to the bow. I have also used laundry baskets in this same way, Purchase a laundry basket, fill it with detergent and cleaning supplies, sponges, etc. then use a large bow to tie around the entire basket. Many years ago when I got married, my coworkers purchased a 1 gallon plastic pitcher and filled it with utensils and gadgets and presented it to me as a gift.
For other occasions, I have purchased my son a pair of boots that he had been wanting and then bought an inexpensive black t-shirt and used the t-shirt to cover the boot box, I had to tape the excess and the sleeves back, but attach a bow to the top of it , and it makes the perfect wrap.
My daughter is crafty, she's 11, she likes to make her own wrap by drawing on the unwaxed side of waxed paper, Using vivid colors and phrases and making the paper look original and neat. We then use the paper to wrap birthday gifts for her friends.
