Looking to buy a new 52-inch TV - better to go for LCD or Plasma? What are the pros and cons?

I purchased an LCD which I'm happy with. My boyfriend told me that the main difference was that plasma's have brighter color, while LCD's will last longer - but these days the difference is pretty small so just go with what looks better to you.
