Listen up guys: A diamond purchase is a financial transaction. It is mathematical. It requires knowledge and skill; a good eye even. It is a science. Make your purchase skillfully. Find that one-of-a-kind diamond; perfect among the many that were considered. Apply to this once in a lifetime purchase for the woman you love, all that you have in financial skills, mathematical skills and understanding about these rare and tiny little carbon deposits that crystallized into rough, precious gems -as God created the earth.

To make a good diamond purchase, one where you get the best value, the most beautiful stone in exchange for 7% of that year’s hard earned pay, you need to use your head to do it right. The thing is, not all values can be appraised. The value you put into this diamond ring by educating yourself about diamonds and learning sneaky ways to find out your soon to be engaged girlfriend’s preferences and tastes, putting effort, and caring time and thought into it will last forever, like your love. So, get your head around it…But, make sure you put your heart into it too.

Diamonds have been a quest of man since first found around 3,000 B.C. in what is now India, and continues all over the world these 5,000 years later. From the Canadian diamond miner punching in at the mines to the young American bachelor stalking glass cases hours after he punched out; we gotta get our girls their rocks!

  • The best [monetary] value for cost. (This is the 5 C’s stuff)
  • Style: cut and setting.

To consider choices in a thoughtful and meaningful way, you need to get educated. How much do you need to know before you purchase a diamond? If the diamond is for you; As much as you can, with the focus on quality and value. Your taste will come naturally. Style, as in cut and setting, is a choice -your choice, your preference.

If the diamond is for the love of your life, then you need to have more knowledge than your girl and as many of her friends as possible! Hint: these same friends can be a great resource for finding out what your fiancee might prefer. Of course, find the one you can trust to keep a secret…Good luck with that.

You were the guy who spends hours online -reading, learning, shopping, comparing. You got educated about diamonds, because you cared. You realized that the sentimental value added to to this diamond, the centerpiece of your proposal, was as important as the presentation of the ring. And man, did you ever think that out -and rehearsed it. All this will show, and your wife-to-be will see, just how much you love her.

Awesome article! Do you know my ex-hubby gave me a beautiful marquis? Trouble is he should have informed me the gold was worth more than the fake diamond he had inserted.. oh it was a beauty.. but when I went to have it sized later on when my fingers got a little smaller.. guess what? The CZ burned white or whatever.. the jeweler called me to ask if I knew it was a CZ. Of course I didn't... he's an ex now ... but not because of that. :)

I knew a guy who gave his girl a CZ, passing it off as a real diamond. It was the girl he was cheating on his wife with -I don't know if that makes it better or worse. When I was young, I never imagined the extent to which people with either set of gonads will go to be such douche bags. And then, like you, I married/divorced one. WARNING: If you are in the market for an engagement ring, and you are even toying with the idea of passing off a CZ: Go drown yourself in a vat a vinegar and water before you end up crushing some girl's soul. I've been hired to write a series of articles on this topic. My next one addresses the embarrassment a man might feel for not being able to buy the stone he would like for his wife to be. Hopefully it will stave off the temptation a guy might feel to do something as lame as your ex did.
