Holidays are a time for giving and sharing and reaching out to those in need. Due to various situations there are many people who won’t get to have much of a Christmas. There are alot of women and children being forced to live in shelters for multiple reasons. There are several ways to volunteer and help the needy in the community.
One way is to set up a donation where people can donate gifts to people in homeless shelters and to needy families who can’t afford to buy Christmas gifts. A second way to help those in need is to donate Christmas party supplies to some of the local shelters.
I am going to tell you one of the ways I plan on helping the needy this Christmas.
I am going to go to the women’s shelter in my community and ask the coordinator to have each of the kids make a list of what they want for Christmas, and then I am going to buy what I can from each of their lists, and on Christmas day my fiance is going to dress up like Santa Claus and deliver the gifts to the kids and i am making blankets to donate to each of the women and children at the shelter. After the gifts are given we are going to have a nice Christmas party for everyone.
Another great way to help the needy is to volunteer at the local soup kitchens giving out holiday meals or if there is no place try donating money or specified supplies to any local food drive, food bank, or your local Lions or Leo clubs. Lions clubs usually keep local members pretty much everywhere and can be reached just by doing a search for them in your local area on www.whitepages.com or in your local phone book. Leo clubs depend on if your local high school maintains a Leo club.
Finally, the last and probably greatest idea for charity around the holidays is the nationwide drive for Toys For Tots. Traditionally, your local service members association (military) or Marine Corps will be heading the drive, so that is your best bet for locating the location of the drive and times so you can donate.
