What do the bottoms of your feet say about you?

How to prevent yourself from getting smelly feet and even athlete's foot

The soles of your feet can tell an expert pedologist (or pedalologist) a great deal about you. According to ‘foot reading’ experts, the marks and patterns on you feet reveal a great deal about what has happened to you physically and emotionally, over a period of years. Pedology is the name given to the understanding of disease and emotional upset by the examination the feet.

Does pedology really work?

There are those who claim that the feet can be read in much the same way as palm readers claim to read hands, but my personal experience as a holistic therapist tells me that while feet do give an indication of over all health, this is not achieved in the same way as palm reading.

There is a link with reflexology and a qualified practitioner will be able to examine the feet, feel for lumps, bumps and other regularities and produce a general diagnosis. This is not the same as having a qualified doctor giving a medical examination and should never be used as an alternative, but it is an interesting and fun thing to investigate.

Markings on the soles of the feet

Markings on the soles of the feet are relatively easy to see and simple to interpret once you know how. Start with the ball of the foot; this is the soft part behind the toes. Marks in this area are positive signs of quite high self-esteem. The instep relates to enthusiasm for life, and people with marks in this area of their sole are good communicators and have successful relationships with other people.

What do markings on the toes indicate?

Lines under the big toe show that a person is intelligent and likes intellectual challenges. A second toe with many lines, may indicate selfishness, and people who are self absorbed. Middle toes and fourth toes indicate social activity and a friendly personality.

Lines and marks beneath the little toe are indicative of the need for security within the family, but also a longing for space in which to spread those clipped wings.

How do your feet feel?

Feet that are very flexible to move around indicate a person who can adapt very easily to changing situations, but floppy, flaccid feet usually belong to someone who just gives in too easily, rather than standing their ground, and could be very impressionable.

Firm feet generally belong to ordered, well disciplined people who have set ways of doing things, but rigid, stiff feet, may indicate an insecure, unbending and adamant kind of person who will never give in, even when they turn out to be wrong.

Tell-tale signs that show on your feet.

Swollen feet are unhappy feet which are weighed down with tears that have been held within, and swellings may indicate raw emotion that has not been dealt with. Wrinkled feet belong to those who are very uptight and anxious.

Flat feet show lack of vitality and pads of hard skin form to protect and hide things, so the owner of feet with with lots of hard skin may be hiding emotions.

Lines on the feet

Looking closely at the pattern of lines on the bottom of a foot, is for me, a bit too much like palmistry, but pedologists and reflexologists alike consider these marks to be significant.

Crossed lines on the soles of the feet indicate a crossroads with serious decisions to be made, and a single cross may show that the owner of the foot has a heavy burden to carry. Box shapes can indicate that some aspects of life are ignored, boxed off, and contained separately.

Circular lines show someone who is moving round in circles and achieving little, while totally random lines may show a whirlwind, or sudden change coming along. Dagger marks are left by emotional upheaval and may remain there for a lifetime, and blood vessels that show on the surface can point to old emotional baggage that has not yet been dealt with and is trying to come to the surface.

Does pedology work?

In so far as it is linked with reflexology, there seems to be some truth in this method of medical and emotional divination, but some of the claims certainly leave room for discussion. The link with reflexology is for me what gives this art some credibility.

I am a qualified reflexologist and must admit to starting off quite sceptical about the whole thing, but ending up amazed by the effects of treatments, and being even more taken aback by the way the feet can give valid information about the workings of the rest of the body.
