What to do with your old clothing

With buying new clothing and getting odd sweaters from grandma Agnes for the holidays, your closet is probably getting pretty stuffed. So, if getting rid of some clothes is on your New Year’s resolutions list, read this: there are many options to give new life to the old clothing that clutters your closet- and some aren’t so obvious!

1. Donate to charity. Ok, so this might seem pretty obvious, but really, it’s a nice thing to do. The rescue mission is a wonderful place to donate, and they have locations all over the place.

2. Have a garage sale. Again, pretty obvious. If you need a little extra pocket money, though, this is a great option. Just remember to arrange things nicely, and you should have no problem raking in the cash. Advertise it on Craigslist.org for a better turnout.

3. Have a clothing swap. Gather friends for a party, but add in the invitations to bring old and unwanted clothing when they come. This way, you all can go “shopping” without paying a dime! At the end, if there’s clothing left that nobody wants, bring it to a church that hands out food and clothing to the poor. You get rid of unwanted clothing, you get new clothing, and you do a good deed! Three birds with one stone!

4. Create! This may be for the more craftier of us- old shirts with a pretty design can become a pillowcase, any old clothing can become chair cushion covers, you can make dollhouse curtains and blankets if you have a little girl, or even if you just enjoy crafting.. You can make a lot of things if you just put your mind to it!

In the end there are many ways to NOT throw those old clothes away- and they are more rewarding than taking out the garbage! Brainstorm and you can come up with other ways, too. Remember to always wash the clothes before donating to charity, and always have fun for whatever your doing. It makes it all worthwhile!
